Porsche Centre York opens in autumn 2021 to serve as a ‘satellite’ of Porsche Centre Leeds

Porsche pioneers new retail format in York

Great Britain. Porsche is exploring new formats in auto retail and helping to drive customer satisfaction in imaginative ways with plans for a new Porsche Centre in York.

The development is designed to support its larger, parent Porsche Centre in Leeds, so the new showroom and workshop in York is consequently smaller at 567sq m, yet it offers space for four cars and a service department with eight work bays.

Working together with the team at Porsche Centre Leeds, the ‘satellite’ Centre in York will enable Porsche to better serve its customers in the region, in particular by expanding the after-sales capacity as the appeal of the range continues to grow. One of the most recent new models was the all-electric Taycan and this is reflected in the Centre facilities, which feature six charging stations to support the innovative 800V infrastructure of the four-door sports car.

The construction work is expected to take around nine months to complete, with Porsche Centre York due to open officially in autumn 2021. It is a significant investment in the local area, and a clear demonstration of the commitment by the company to owners and fans in the North. This follows the redevelopment of both Porsche Centre Newcastle and Porsche Centre Sheffield last year; and the opening of a brand new Porsche Centre in Teesside in 2017.

Porsche Centre York will be located close to the city centre at Great North Way on York Business Park off the A1237 outer ring road at Nether Poppleton. Its prime location alongside a major road around the city means it will serve as a window into the world of the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer, a marque that has fascinated car enthusiasts since 1948.

As Porsche cars embody long-held principles of intelligent performance, so too the building incorporates cutting edge design and energy efficiency measures. The architecture reflects an evolution of the Porsche corporate identity that now features an exterior aluminium façade with highlight LED strips and logo to create the familiar showroom appearance. The interior will have a racing line layout acting as a guide through the showroom along which customers can explore the sales and aftersales areas.

The idea is to create a ‘boutique’ showroom environment, incorporating a dedicated handover lounge and electric vehicle display. In addition, Porsche Centre York will have the capacity to display up to 25 Porsche Approved Pre-Owned vehicles.

Customers will be able to enjoy a variety of services and support facilities including:
- Eight bay workshop
- MOT bay
- Four-wheel alignment bay and calibration bay
- Porsche Direct Dialogue Service bay supporting quick, on-the-spot diagnosis
- Dedicated High Voltage Electric vehicle bay
- Executive lounge area
- ‘Kidz zone’ complete with iPads and gaming pod
- ‘Smart Energy’ building management system and full LED lighting

The Centre will also offer a service loan fleet and range of Porsche demonstrators. In additional, local delivery and collection will be available to ensure any servicing or repairs are conducted with minimal inconvenience to the customer.

John Tordoff, chief executive of JCT600, said: “Having represented the iconic Porsche marque since 1967, we are proud to be one of its longest standing Centre partners in the UK. We are also pleased to develop the relationship further with this commitment to our customers in Yorkshire and the North East.

“We expect Porsche Centre York to be extremely popular, enabling people from the city and further afield to more easily view the full range of vehicles, and complementing the existing Porsche Centres in Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle and Teesside.”
