Porsche Generations Open tees off in October at the Belfry

New golf competition pairs young and old players for a nine-hole challenge – the Porsche Generations Open

Great Britain. This October, golf enthusiasts are invited to participate in a driving challenge with a difference and join the Porsche Generations Open; a nine hole tournament for amateur teams.

As the ‘Generations’ title suggests, the contest is open to any pair where the younger player is at least 18 and the senior player at least 20 years older. Pairs need not be family relations, but both players must be members of a golf club either UK or overseas and play off an active handicap.

The winners will receive an entry to the ProAm tournament of the Porsche European Open 2018 in Hamburg, one of the most prestigious titles on the European Tour calendar.

Teeing off at the prestigious Belfry course near Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, on October 7, the Porsche Generations Open consists of a nine-hole scramble with the tenth hole as a bonus. This comprises, appropriately enough, of a Porsche driving simulator and a putting green contest.

In addition, the option of a pre-event online quiz can set up teams with a handy points’ advantage ahead of arriving on the links.

The concept builds on the growth in fast-paced, dynamic interpretations of traditional sports – and adds typical Porsche flair. Each participant must have a valid full UK driving licence, or a foreign licence valid for driving in the UK.

Up to 20 teams can enter the Generations Open, at a cost of £75 per pair. It will be contested on the nine-hole Brabazon Course at the Belfry, a venue considered by many to be the spiritual home of The Ryder Cup – which could be said to be ‘the Le Mans’ of golf tournaments.

The winning team will receive two exclusive starting slots at the Porsche European Open 2018 ProAm tournament in Hamburg. Play will be on the challenging North Course at Green Eagle Golf Courses, together with a participating Pro, for an unforgettable shared experience.

Second prize is a driving experience for two at the Porsche Experience Centre Silverstone.

Porsche in Golf
The European Open is one of the most prestigious titles on the European Tour, the primary golf tour in Europe. And Porsche will be the title sponsor of this event in Germany until 2020.

The Porsche European Open is the first activity by Porsche in professional golf. The third edition of the tournament took place this year for the first time on the challenging North Course at Green eagle Golf Courses near Hamburg from 26 - 30 July.

In addition to the Porsche European Open, which was staged for the first time in 2015, Porsche AG has also been successfully involved in amateur golf since 1988 with the global Porsche Golf Cup, an exclusive tournament series for customers.
The new Porsche Generations Open is the most recent expression of this commitment to the sport.

Porsche sports sponsorship
Alongside tennis and youth sports projects, the commitment in professional golf forms the third pillar in the Porsche sports sponsorship strategy. Porsche is actively involved in tennis as the promotor and title sponsor of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix – one of the most popular tournaments of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). The sports car manufacturer is also a partner of the German Tennis Federation and supports the Porsche Team Germany, as well as the German tennis juniors through the Porsche Talent Team Germany. Furthermore, Angelique Kerber and Maria Sharapova are Porsche Brand Ambassadors.

This year, Porsche extended its partnership with the WTA in entering a multi-year global partnership. Porsche will be the official and exclusive automotive partner of the WTA and the new title partner of the ‘Porsche Race to Singapore’, the qualification leaderboard for the WTA Finals in the metropolis. Porsche additionally promotes young players in football, basketball and ice hockey through its ‘Turbo for Talents’ programme in Stuttgart and Leipzig.
