Sports car manufacturer supports mental wellbeing and prospects of children in UK

Porsche Cars GB joins drive to improve child mental health with Place2Be

Great Britain. Porsche Cars GB is proud to announce it is joining forces with Place2Be, the leading provider of in-school mental health services in the UK, and help support the charity’s mission to improve the mental wellbeing and prospects of children, their families and communities across the UK. In this way, the two organisations aim to accelerate awareness of this fundamental social welfare and healthcare topic.

Place2Be has over 25 years’ experience working with pupils, families and staff in UK schools. It provides mental health support through one-to-one and group counselling using tried and tested methods backed by research. The charity also offers expert training and professional qualifications that further underline its commitment to long-term support in these critical fields.

To celebrate the start of what will be a long-term partnership, Porsche has donated £50,000 to Place2Be and is working with the charity to prepare further fundraising initiatives in support of its Children’s Mental Health Week in February. But the Porsche relationship extends beyond monetary support, with a programme of cooperation with Place2Be that will provide assistance in many areas including help to raise awareness of the key issues.

The UK is the fourth largest market for Porsche in the world, and in every country it serves, the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer considers it important to play a role in local society.

“In this very unusual period with hardship and tough times for many people, we wanted to use our position as a successful business to help drive a difference,” said Marcus Eckermann, Managing Director, Porsche Cars GB. “We looked for something that would support the values of Porsche and also help our communities here in a specific and conscientious way.

“In Place2Be, we are proud to support an organisation that is doing good work in the education sector and wider youth community. This valuable contribution fits perfectly with the worldwide Porsche commitment to sustainability, which covers economic factors and environmental considerations, but also and especially social responsibility.”

In 2020, Place2Be worked directly with 700 schools across the UK reaching over 380,000 children and young people. The outcomes for children supported by Place2Be show an 81% recorded improvement in wellbeing, with 74% of children having fewer fixed term exclusions and 75% finding it easier to have and keep friends.

In the situation of the global pandemic, the charity has seen itself facing new challenges and it is playing a lead role supporting many families and children through these exceptional circumstances.

“Place2Be is thrilled to have been chosen as the Porsche charity partner,” said Catherine Roche, Chief Executive, Place2Be. “The latest research shows that 1 in 6 children in the UK now have a diagnosable mental health problem. Following the extraordinary events of 2020, it is vital that we can support children and young people now, before mental health problems grow and become more complex.

“By providing support early, Place2Be can prevent challenges from becoming more serious and impacting children’s futures. Through this partnership, we can have a real and lasting impact on the mental health of thousands of children and young people across the country, and together deliver on our vision; that no child should face mental health problems alone.”
